History
Roland Desmond a.k.a. Blockbuster, was reborn into his monsterous and menacing form during the Invasion, in which an alliance of aliens bent on world conquest, activated a bomb that triggered the latent meta genes in a great number of humans. Brother to the first Blockbuster, Mark Desmond, Roland was incarcerated at the time. He fell ill during the metagenic transformation of his body and the prison medical staff then treated him with an experimental steroid in an efford to cure him. Instead the steroid bonded with his active metagene and turned Roland into Blockbuster II. The prison staff then decided to transfer him to a medical facility for further studies. However, during the transfer Roland escaped. His rampages in the southwest brought him to the attention of Starman who with the help of Batman was able to stop the new Blockbuster. Roland was then imprisoned at Belle Reve.
Later, during the attacks in which metahumans were modified by the infernal being known as Neron (Underworld Unleashed) Roland made a deal to become a genius. Using his newly found intellect he moved to BlŸdhaven, where he slowly and methodically set up shop as Bludhaven's new crime lord. By first learning from, then forcefully supplanting the former boss Angel Marin. Roland is now considered the new crimelord of the city, although only a few know of his identity.
Powers and Weapons
Blockbuster II possesses a limited degree of superhuman strengh, increased stamina, and heightened resistance to injury. He is not completely invulnerable but it required specialized ammunition to penetrate his skin. His resistance to blunt trauma is extraordinary but he can still experience pain if struck in his nerve clusters. He does not seem to be as strong or resistant to injury as Blockbuster I. The exact limits of his strenght has not yet been revealed, but he has been seen to shake off the effect of 30,000 volts of electricity as well as tons of rubble from a collasping building. Roland Desmond now no longer consideres brute force as his greatest strength, and if possible he prefers to refrain from using his powers, at all. However, when provoked he is known to revert to his old brutal self.
Known Weaknesses
Known to only a few people, Roland Desmond has been experiencing a series of debilitating attacks. After a confrontation with Superman, it is revealed that Desmond's heart has become enlarged (possibly due to his mutated state or to the damage and stress he has sustained when exerting his powers) and weakened. Superman theorizes that Roland Desmond may not have long to live without some form of extreme medical care. It is theorized that if an robotic or organic replacement of the proper size could be found Roland may be able to prolong his life.
