Him: The Early Years
Warlock is an artificial being, created by researchers at a complex known as the “Beehive”. The goal of the researchers there was to create the perfect human being, the pinnacle of future human evolution.
Fortunately for the denziens of Earth, the new being was a creature beyond the control of his creators. The creature emerged, known only as “Him”, and immediately sensed that his creators sought to use him for evil ends. He lashed out, damaging the complex and injuring his “fathers”, and promptly escaped. Unfortunately, “Him” was a being with no life experience due to his unique conception. He promptly encountered Thor, and attempted the abduction of the Lady Sif in order to mate with her (an act that would be repeated in a more benign but no less infuriating fashion by his gene-sister “Her”, now known as Kismet.). Thor naturally took offense to this kidnapping, and promptly beat the young Godling to near-death. Warlock promptly retreated to the safety of a regenerative coccoon and thus was later reborn. To The Stars
Upon his rebirth, Him was renamed as Adam Warlock by the High Evolutionary, who became a guiding force in the life of the reborn Godling. The High Evolutionary gave Warlock purpose, direction, and one more thing…the vampiric Soul Gem. Soon afterwards, Warlock journeyed to the planet called Counter-Earth, an experiment of the High-Evolutionary’s that had recently gone awry. Counter-Earth had been an attempt to create a utopian society, and it had been so until it’s recent contamination by the evil Man-Beast. Warlock battled the cunning creature to no avail, until he formed a somewhat unusual and narcissistic plan. Warlock set out to become the one, true God of Counter Earth. To do this he crucified himself and died, only to rise from his ressurrection coccoon 3 days later (sounds familiar eh?). His rash gamble worked, and Counter-Earth was saved (years later, the planet would fall to the influence of another.).

My Enemy…My Self
Soon afterwards, Warlock would come into contact with a malicious being known as the Magus. Warlock soon found out to his horror that the Magus was in fact a twisted future incarnation of himself, totally insane and horribly powerful. As the head of the Universal Church of Truth, the Magus had ground billions of lifeforms across the cosmos under his heel. Warlock battled him, but could not succeed on his own for his future self posessed vast might. Eventually, with the help of Pip the Troll, Gamora, and the nefarious Thanos of Titan, Warlock succeeded in eliminating the Timeline from which the Magus sprang, thus cancelling his existance retroactively throughout time. Then, in a brilliant, yet disturbing counter-move, Thanos projected Warlock 2 years into the future where he encountered his dying self, embittered, preparing to give birth anew to the Magus. Warlock then took the soul of his dying future self into the Soul-Gem, thus ending the threat of his evil counterpart.

My Ally…My Enemy?
However, as forseen, Warlock would meet his end two years later. Thanos planned to snuff out the stars themselves, and his ward, Gamora, found out about his plan. She attacked him and was struck down brutally. Warlock found her soon afterwards and took her soul into his Gem, learning the full extent of Thanos’ plan in the process. Distraught and enraged, Warlock sought out allies to assist him in his gambit against the Mad Titan. He journeyed to earth, and to the mansion HQ of the mighty Avengers. There he told them, and the recently arrived Captain Marvel and Moondragon of Thanos’ plan to blow all the stars from the heavens. The Avengers then made immediate plans to attack Thanos’ starship, the Sanctuary II. However, as he had in an earlier scheme to gain ultimate power, Thanos would sow the seeds of his own Destruction. Thanos purposely enraged Adam Warlock, by wiping the mind of Adam’s companion Pip, and leaving him to be found. When Warlock found Pip’s mindless form, he drew his friend’s spirit into his Soul-Gem. But before Thanos had attacked Pip, he told him of his plan. And when Warlock drew Pip’s soul into the Gem, he learned of the plan. Warlock and Captain Marvel immediately attacked Thanos, destoying his projector. Mar-Vell was rendered unconcious, but Warlock savagely attacked Thanos, who promptly struck him down. Before Thanos could move his Star-Gem into another Projector, he was attacked by Thor and Iron Man, who followed behind Warlock and Mar-Vell. Thor attacked Thanos, while Iron Man shattered the Star-Gem. Thanos teleported away with Warlock’s body, and led his crew to defeat the Avengers. With Warlock’s gem he possessed enough Power to at least desroy the Earth’s Sun. But before he could do so, a wild card was introduced in the form of Ben Grimm (The Thing) and Spider Man, who was compelled to find the battleground by Lord Chaos and Master Order. Spider Man freed the Avengers and in the melee’ that followed shattered the sphere holding the Soul-Gem. The gem hit the floor and in a flash of light the Soul of Adam Warlock appeared from within the Gem. Now a being of pure energy, Warlock lunged for the panicked Thanos, and killed him, turning the Titan’s body into solid Granite. Afterwards, the spirit of Warlock retreated back into the blissful world inside the Gem itself.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega”
Warlock would live peacefully for several years in Soul World, with Pip and Gamora, until Thanos again became a threat to all who lived. Encountering Drax the Destroyer and the noble Silver Surfer after Thanos abducted their souls, Warlock made plans to thwart the Titan once more. Warlock projected the Souls of himself, Pip, and Gamora into three recently deceased humans. His powers reshaped their shattered bodies into new, more powerful versions of their old bodies. Then he went about gathering Earth’s remaining Champions to attack Thanos on his space platform. However, the attack by Earth’s heroes was a distraction designed to allow the Silver Surfer to snatch the allmighty Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos’ grasp. He failed. After ascending to the crux of all reality after defeating the Universe’s mightiest cosmic beings, Thanos lost his divinity due to the machinations of his “granddaughter” Nebula. Thanos was then talked into assisting Warlock in Nebula’s defeat, whereupon Warlock himself gained the Gauntlet and ascended to Godhood. Warlock was soon afterwards convinced that he was unworthy to become supreme, and then divided the gems amongst Himself (Soul), Gamora (Time), Pip (Space), Drax (Power), Moondragon (Mind), and secretly Thanos (reality). The newly formed Infinity watch defended the Gems against the machinations of those who would misuse them. This included the reborn threat of the Magus (this version however, was merely Warlock’s expelled evil nature, and was thus just a shade of Warlock himself.), Warlock’s “good” side, the Goddess, and the evil extradimensional Count Abyss.

Back from the Ultraverse
However, a threat arrived from a different Universe. A threat called Rune, a vampiric Dark God whom succeeded in stealing all of the gems from their guardians. Before Rune could become aquainted with his newfound might, the heroic Silver Surfer attacked him, spurred on by the Living Tribunal. The Surfer shattered Rune’s right hand, scattering all of the gems (save for the Soul Gem, which had alighted on Rune’s forehead.) and causing them to be lost into the other Universe beyond. The Infinity Watch then fell apart, having no gems to protect. Afterwards Warlock promptly left, searching the Universe for his Soul Gem, despite its’ betrayal. During his long search, Warlock was pulled into a gateway between our Universe, and the neighboring Ultraverse. He awoke…projected into the distant past, to discover a gathering of worshippers hailing him as their Messiah. In the weeks that followed he discovered that he was upon a vast construct called the Godwheel, and in the presence of Warrior Priests who needed a savior to help them defeat a Dark God. This Dark God turned out to be the evil Rune himself. Soon, the hordes of Rune attacked, killing scores of the Warrior Priests, and turning the battle into a massacre. Rune and Warlock met on the field of battle and fought long into the night. Finally, Warlock fatigued, and Rune plunged his blade through Warlock’s chest, wounding him mortally. As Warlock lay dying, Rune attempted to drain his soul, but failed due to Warlock’s supreme astral control. Rune howled his frustration into the night, as Warlock died, and was promptly surrounded by his regenerative coccoon. He awoke…centuries later into the present of the Ultraverse, with newfound abilities that made up for the loss of his Soul Gem. After a few adventures in the Ultraverse, Warlock found a gateway back into our Universe. His current activities are unknown, but Warlock expressed a desire to search out Kismet, and explore their sibling relationship.

Skills:
Warlock is a natural martial artist having received no formal training. His style emphasizes his preternatural reflexes, high agility, intuitive fighting and knowledge of an opponent. He has a natural ability to analyze patterns and this is linked to a high order intelligence and extreme will power, making him a formidable opponent to all but the most powerful metahumans.

Talents:
Warlock has a powerful intuitive sense and awareness of other realms of existance. This is due in part to having an existance outside the realm of the Universe due to an edict from Master Order and Lord Chaos. Because of this edict and from time spent as a near omnipotent being, Warlock is aware of the fundamental underpinnings of the Universe at a level far beyond the understandings of most mortal beings.

Strength level:
Warlock possesses superhuman strength, allowing him to lift (press) 10 tons. When further enhanced by cosmic energy, Warlock’s strength increases to a degree that allows him to lift (press) 50 tons. When Warlock recreated his new body for himself, Gamora and Pip, it is unknown whether he made any particular modifications for these bodies. It is possible that he may be stronger than this now and chooses not to reveal it to his opponents.

Known Superhuman Powers:
Warlock possesses the ability to fly under his own power at supersonic speeds inside an atmosphere. He can achieve speeds of Mach 3 or better (2200+ mph). In space, Warlock can fly faster than the speed of light. He is also able to create space warps in an undisclosed manner, most likely through the manipulation of the Cosmic Energies he naturally absorbs from his surroundings. He possesses an enhanced metabolism and durability, and also reflexes enhanced over normal human levels. Warlock also possesses several psionic abilities such as telepathy and a sense of cosmic awareness. Lastly, Warlock possesses the ability to draw upon sources of cosmic energy for a variety of effects including the projection of concussive blasts. However, when Warlock was in possession of the Soul Gem, it drew upon his life force so heavily that it severly hindered his abilities to absorb and manipulate cosmic energy. Perhaps Warlock’s most interesting ability is his power of regeneration. When injured sufficently (either mentally or physically.), Warlock can create a coccoon around his body. After which he enters a state of deep hibernation, and then in that state he regenerates his body completely. Sometimes, in the past Warlock has shown that such a state can make him more or less powerful, depending on how long he remains in hibernation.

Weapons:
The Karma Staff: an expression of his will, the staff allowed Adam to project bolts of energy, perform minor telekinetic feats and deflect energies directed at him. It allowed him to focus mystical energies more effectively.

The Soul Gem:
One of six, the Soul Gem is a segment of a superintelligent, omni-powerful, primal entity that split itself into six tiny but powerful objects known as the Infinity Gems. This entity whose name was unknown but whose effect on the local universe has been extraordinary. The Infinity Gems seem to have an intelligence of their own but only the Soul Gem has been studied with any detail. The Soul Gem seems to have a malevolent personality, bent on satisfying its own needs, in this case, a need for new souls to inhabit its internal pocket nexus. The Soul Gem creates a symbiotic relationship with its host organism, providing protection, sustenance, and power, in exchange for new souls. The High Evolutionary was evidently strong enough to resist its lure since he was already powerful enough, but the Gem convinced him to allow Adam Warlock to possess it even though the High Evolutionary knew how dangerous the Soul Gem was.

Strangely enough, the pocket reality of beings captured by the Soul Gem is a place of peace and calm, where all captured souls share a communal consciousness and well-being. To date only a few souls have ever left the Gem for any length of time, and until recently Adam Warlock, the Magus, Gamora, and Pip the Troll are the only beings to ever do so without returning. The Soul Gem possesses several powers of its own, and will when it feels willing, contribute them to the host organism that wears it. Among these powers are: the awareness of nearby souls and their emotional states, the disruption of Karmic energies within a soul, causing unconsciousness or mental instability or even death, the projection of energy in powerful concussive bursts, the physical augmentation of a host’s natural abilities, and the collection of an unwilling being’s soul essence and placing it within its nexus. The Gem does drain spiritual essence from its host if it is not satisfied. This transfer of essence does cause personality shifts in the host organism, but it is not permanent. Since the Soul Gem was part of an all powerful being, it is possible that it is capable of other as yet undocumented feats.

POWERS AND ABILITIES

Intelligence: Above normal
Strength: Superhuman class 100
Flight speed: Warp speed
Stamina: Godlike
Fighting skills: Average hand-to-hand combatant, relies wholly on cosmic energy powers.

Superhuman physical powers: The Silver Surfer possesses vast cosmic power granted him by Galactus as a part of the process of physically restructuring the Surfer’s former organic
body. The Silver Surfer has the ability to manipulate cosmic energy for a variety of effects. He has the ability to channel ambient cosmic energy into his body at will, and expel it violently as concussive force or gently as a means to restructure molecules according to his mental design.

He can generate beams of energy through his hands with sufficient destructive force to level a large city or generate such subtle amounts of energy to restructure the molecules of the natural dyes within a plant to change its color. The Surfer can rearrange the molecules of matter to create other configurations, but he cannot transmute elements. He can also direct this energy in a variety of other ways including the erection of force shields, molecular reconstruction and creation of objects, healing, augmentation of strength at superhuman levels; flight at near-light speeds through interstellar space and through hyperspace; near total physical invulnerability, ability to exist without food, sleep, or oxygen in space.

Durability: He can withstand great extremes of temperature caused by the build-up of friction within atmospheres or the vacuum of space or (within limits) the intense heat within the near vicinity of stars. He can survive without difficulties in the vacuum of outer space and hyperspace, and his body can withstand the stresses of travel at near-light speeds in this universe and of even greater speeds, in hyperspace.

Senses: The Silver Surfer has certain cosmic energy enhanced perceptions which enable him through concentration to become aware of the patterns of energy which surround him. The Surfer can sense the lifeforce of a planet from thousands of light years away. Accordingly, he can sense great concentrations or deployment of energy anywhere in the world. He has a special affinity for the life energies of living beings, and can use his cosmic powers to augment them to a certain degree. While he can use his power to revitalize life energies and heal the wounded, he cannot create life or restore life to the dead.

Superhuman mental powers: Mental command of his surfboard; ability to sense concentrations of energy, including life energies of living beings, over galactic distances, and a perfect sense of direction. Norrin also has a strong personal sense of self, able to resist manipulation from cosmic beings such as Mephisto and Despayre.

Source of superhuman powers: Physical transformation by cosmic power of Galactus.

PART I – THE DISTANT PAST

Pre-Big Bang

The universe was collapsing. Galen from the planet Taa was ordered to set out into space to discover a method to save his world. Not finding any means to prevent the collapse of the universe, Galen and his shipmates decided to die gloriously by plunging their ship into the heart of the “Cosmic Egg,” the focal point upon which the universe was collapsing. As the ship sped towards the Cosmic Egg, Galen’s shipmates began to be affected by the tremendous forces pulling at them and began to die. However Galen did not perish but was protected from the tremendous gravities by the sentience of the dying universe. This consciousness contacted Galen and told him that they both would die, but in the new universe they would be reborn. The “Cosmic Egg” then absorbed Galen into itself.

15,000,000,000 Years Ago

The Big Bang. The universe was created in a massive explosion. Mass and energy condensed to form the universe. [Scientific theory.]

Eternity, Death, Lord Chaos and Master Order, and others, abstract entities who are the ethereal embodiments of the new universe, were reborn.

The being that had been Galen was hurled from the center of the explosion in his recreated spaceship. Inside the ship, Galen was undergoing a metamorphosis that would take eons.

8,000,000,000 Years Ago

Eternity, the embodiment of everything in the universe, the Celestial Axis, a pattern of organic energy that threads itself throughout the universe, and Time itself gave birth to Eon, a sentient quasi-physical entity. Eon was created to become the cosmic custodian of the universe, to monitor beings of incredible power that might pose a threat to the universe’s existence. Eon also eventually became responsible for nurturing the evolution of sentient life forms in the universe.

Billions of Years Ago.

Life began to evolve in the universe on alien planets. Sentient and intelligent races eventually arose.

One of the first intelligent races in the universe to evolve eventually became known to the rest of the universe as the Watchers. Their evolution caused them to develop tremendous mental and energy manipulative abilities. As civilizations began arising on other worlds, the High Tribunal of the Watchers debated whether or not to share their knowledge and technology with less advanced civilizations. The Watcher known as Uatu persuaded the Tribunal to share their knowledge, and a delegation of four Watchers travelled to the planet Prosilicus. The Watchers offered the Prosilicans the knowledge of atomic energy, which would advance their level of technology considerably. The Watchers tutored the Prosilicans in the uses of atomic energy for several months, then departed.

The Prosilicans used their new knowledge to develop nuclear weapons, and war and conflict broke out across their planet. They next engaged in war with an alien race, who proved to be more technologically advanced than them. The aliens all but destroyed the remaining Prosilicans.

Returning to evaluate the progress of their experiment, the Watchers were horrified to discover what the Prosilicans had done with their knowledge. During the next meeting of the High Tribunal, the Watchers decided that they would never again interfere in the affairs of another race. The Watchers instead developed a policy of non-interference and passive observation of alien cultures.

Soon after the meeting of the High Tribunal, the Watchers abandoned their home planet and relocated throughout the universe, each Watcher choosing a different sector of space to monitor and observe.

As other civilized alien races began nearing extinction, the last survivors who had driven themselves in pursuit of a particular goal discovered that they had become immortal. These immortals eventually became known as the Elders of the Universe. Their immortality allowed them to survive not only the deaths of their races, but eventually also the end of their galaxies. In pursuit of their particular goals, the Elders eventually relocated themselves throughout the universe.

Galen’s spaceship was observed by the Watcher Ecce. Ecce studied the ship as it travelled through space and learned that the being within had vast growing power. Knowing that Galen would one day have to consume entire planets to sustain itself, the Watcher contemplated killing the creature within. In the end Ecce decided to abide by his race’s policy of non-interference and let the ship travel on it’s way, although he continued to observe it.

Developing within the spaceship, Galen renamed himself Galactus and began learning how to master his vast power. Galactus transformed his spaceship into a huge incubation chamber to help further aid in his development. Centuries later, the incubation chamber drifted into the orbit of the planet Archeopia. Years later Galactus emerged from the chamber and destroyed the planet, absorbing it’s energies into himself. Only a handful of Archeopians managed to flee the destruction of their planet.

Over the next few millennia, Galactus constructed an enormous starbase, Taa II, which engulfed the entire Archeopian solar system. With the construction of his starbase complete, Galactus began wandering the universe in search of planets to quench his hunger.

Realizing he was a unique being in the universe, Galactus decided to use his powers to create a companion. Galactus created Tyrant in his own image, a humanoid of immense size and power. However whereas Galactus was content with his life merely to survive, Tyrant wished to become a conqueror and to rule the universe. He seized power on several worlds, ruling with an iron fist. Tyrant betrayed Galactus, and the two fought an incredible battle which destroyed entire galaxies. Eventually Galactus overpowered Tyrant, and used his cosmic powers to drain Tyrant’s powers from him. Tyrant was shrunken in size. Greatly weakened and humiliated, fearing for his life, Tyrant fled from Galactus and put himself in voluntary exile. [Cosmic Powers #6]

The star Sol began to condense out of nebular gases, eventually forming a solar system. [Scientific theory.]

Eon, foreseeing a threat to the conditions of life in the universe, contacted Glakandar, an alien from the planet Stygia. Eon appointed him as his champion and gave Glakandar the quantum-bands, weapons Eon created that allows the wearer to manipulate energy at will. Starbender, as Glakandar came to be known, became Eon’s first Protector of the Universe. Over the millennia as new threats arose in the cosmos Eon would appoint a new champion, giving him or her the quantum bands to aid in his duties. [Quasar #27]

3,900,000,000 Years Ago

The crust around the third planet from the star Sol solidified and hardened. This planet would eventually be known as Earth. [Scientific theory.]

2,000,000,000 Years Ago

The Elder God Demiurge achieved consciousness after being formed and coalesced from the Earth’s biosphere. As conditions on Earth became supportive towards life, and sensing the need for diversity, Demiurge split up into countless fragments, each of which formed into new organisms, such as Belathauzer, Chthon, Gaea, Set, Y’Garon, and others. These creatures roamed the land masses, and may have had something to do with the shaping of Earth’s continents. [Scientific theory.]

The first single-celled organisms were formed on Earth. [Scientific theory.]

Chthon began devoting himself to the study and manipulation of mystical energies, becoming Earth’s first master of black magic. [Silver Surfer Annual #2]

Gaea assigned herself as protector of the emerging life in Earth’s seas.

Set spawned a number of offspring, among them Sligguth and Damballah.

Set, realizing he could increase his own power by consuming the energy of his fellows, became the first being on Earth to commit murder. By consuming the life energies of a fellow Elder God, Set began down the path to degeneracy. Other Elder Gods quickly began following Set’s example, killing their fellow Elder Gods to gain their energies. Many of them began becoming corrupt and evil and began warring and feeding off each other.

After millions of years of existence, all the Elder Gods except for Gaea had degenerated. Gaea began fearing that the Elder Gods’ wars and petty battles with each other would destroy the evolving life on the planet. Gaea mated with a reincarnation of Demiurge and gave birth to Atum, who became dedicated to eradicating the Elder Gods’ evil.

Forseeing the threat Atum was to his existence, Chthon inscribed all the mystical knowledge he had learned through the millennia on a parchment to be his touchstone with the Earth dimension. Atum indeed became a threat to the Elder Gods, as he began killing them for their evil and degradation, absorbing their energies into himself. The energies he absorbed caused him to undergo a metamorphosis into the form of Demogorge the God-Eater, and many of the Elder Gods fell to him. Chthon, sensing the end was near, cast a spell which allowed him to escape into another dimension before Demogorge could slay him. Before he left, Chthon left the parchment containing his mystical knowledge behind.

Set, witnessing what Chthon had done, replicated Chthon’s spell and he and his offspring escaped. Gaea was the only original Elder God permitted to exist on the planet, and she infused her godly essence into the Earth and into all living things. Demogorge released the energies he had absorbed, reverting back to his form of Atum. He then set up residence within Earth’s sun.

Over millennia, the energies that Demogorge had released when he reverted back into Atum eventually formed into a number of different beings, such as Nun, Ouranus, and Buri, whose descendants would eventually found a number of different pantheons of new gods. [Whether or not the original founders of Earth’s pantheons were created by Atum is speculative, as is whether or not this is the incident by which they were originally created, but Atum has been referred to as the creator of Earth’s pantheons. Legend also states that Gaea was the mother of Ouranus.]

200,000,000 Years Ago

The Beyonders, a race of almost omnipotent other-dimensional beings, contracted the alien race the Nuwali to build wildlife preserves on a number of different planets. The preserves were to be set up in order that the Beyonders could observe the process of evolution under relatively controlled conditions. One of the planets chosen as a site for a preserve was Earth. The Nuwali arrived on Earth during the Triassic period and began construction of the preserve on the continent of Antarctica. They choose a spot with active volcanos and set up advanced technological devices deep within caverns under the valley to help maintain a tropical climate. When the preserve was completed, the Nuwali began stocking it with all manner of Earthly animal life. Over the next several millennia, the Nuwali would return to restock the preserve. In this way, many species which fell to extinction outside the preserve managed to survive within it.

The Lumina and the Myandi were two alien races waging war with each other. The Myandi set up an outpost on Earth during it’s Jurassic Era and placed themselves in suspended animation. The Lumina pursued the Myandi to Earth, and set up their own outpost.

65,000,000 Years Ago

To fuel his own powers the Elder God Set, from his pocket dimension, began drawing psychic energy from the dinosaurs, the dominant life forms of Earth. Eventually Set’s continued feeding on the dinosaurs helped bring about significant drops in their population. Gaea, the embodiment of all living things on Earth, knew the dinosaurs were an evolutionary dead end and allowed Set to continue his feeding knowing that he was quickly depleting his main supply of energy. Set, realizing that Gaea was allowing the extinction of the dinosaurs, became infuriated and commanded the dinosaurs to seek out and kill mammalian life, which Gaea choose over the dinosaurs.

Gaea sensed Set’s command over the dinosaurs and summoned the Elder God before her. Set appeared on Earth in the shape of a giant serpent, the first time he choose this form, and attacked Gaea, but she summoned her son Atum to protect her. Atum attacked Set and destroyed his head. However Set was not killed, and two heads grew back instead of one. Set and Atum, in his form of Demogorge, then began a battle which lasted for years. Many disasters befell Earth in this time, some caused by the battle, which quickly brought about the extinction of the dinosaurs. However the mammals were sheltered from the devastation by Gaea. Eventually Set, drained of power, was forced to withdraw from the Earth dimension. By this time Set had grown seven heads to replace the ones which Atum had destroyed. The battle had drained Set of so much energy that he could no longer journey to the Earth dimension without aid. Demogorge reverted back to Atum and returned to his dwelling place in the sun.

Millions of years Ago

The Celestials, enormous humanoid aliens who possess vast cosmic power, visited the world of the Skrulls. There they performed genetic tests upon the aliens, resulting in three separate branches of Skrullkind. After completing their experiments the Celestials left. One of the branches, the Skrull Deviants, were given the ability to physically alter their appearances at will.

Over time, the Deviant Skrulls waged war and genocide on the mainstream and other Skrull branches, effectively driving them to extinction.

The Skrulls eventually achieved space-faring capacity and began the establishment of an empire throughout the Andromeda Galaxy.

Skrull scientists spent thousands of years looking for a means to convert thought into reality. Finally, the scientists discovered a method whereby opening a portal to the dimension of the Beyonders and capturing the energy released in a cube of force they could create a device which could alter reality. By holding the Cosmic Cube in their hands, they could do anything they wanted. The Cube was confiscated by the Skrull emperor who used it’s powers to proclaim himself a god. After years in the possession of the power mad emperor, the Cosmic Cube began developing a consciousness and personality of it’s own patterned after that of it’s holder. The Cube, acting independently of the emperor, began altering reality to shape it’s wishes, destroying or drastically altering entire solar systems. The destruction it caused wiped out two-thirds of the Skrull empire, and caused the Skrulls to revert back to the level of barbarianism.

The Skrull Cosmic Cube eventually matured and evolved further, abandoning much of it’s ruthless and insane tendencies. Because it had been handled by a Skrull it based it’s humanoid appearance on that of the emperor who ha handled it for so long. The Cosmic Cube was still driven to the urge to transform worlds, but because of the lack of imagination of the Skrullian emperor that had handled it the Cube was also cursed with similar traits. The Shaper of Worlds, as the evolved Cosmic Cube now called itself, began wandering the universe, seeking out sentient beings who would aid and provide for him images by which to transform worlds.

The Skrulls eventually reestablished their civilization and again developed a galaxy wide empire.

The Skrull Empire, attempting to foster a galactic empire based on free trade, landed on the planet of Hala to educate the barbaric natives to the point where they could join. However Hala had two equally intelligent races, the Kree and the Cotati. The Skrulls proposed a test to determine the worthier race. Taking members of both races to a distant planetoid in another galaxy, Earth’s moon, the Skrulls created a planet-like atmosphere, the Blue Area, and bid the two races to use the resources they had to create something of worth. The Skrulls then left. The Kree constructed a magnificent city, while the Cotati created a beautiful garden. A year later the Skrulls returned to judge the two races and found the Cotati’s accomplishment the more worthy. Enraged, the Kree killed the Skrulls and the Cotati and seized the Skrulls’ starship. They used the ship to return to their native planet, then set about deciphering how the technology of the starship worked.

When the Kree abandoned the Blue Area of the Moon, the alien Watcher Uatu set up his home there.

Within a hundred years of acquiring inter-stellar technology from the Skrulls the Kree empire began to spread throughout the Greater Magellanic Cloud Galaxy. The Kree launched an attack upon the Skrull empire and the peaceful Skrulls were again forced to become war-like and antagonistic to defend themselves. The Kree-Skrull War would continue for hundreds of thousands of years.

The Cotati on Hala were almost driven to extinction as the Kree waged genocide upon them. However a small handful of Kree, the pacifist priests of Pama, hid and kept safe a group of Cotati. Eventually these Kree began worshipping the Cotati that they had kept sheltered. To further hide and keep them safe, the priests relocated the surviving Cotati throughout the universe.

Human life began to emerge on Earth. From his other dimension the Elder God Set mystically influenced a small handful of Homo erectus and turned them into serpent-like humanoids. Set also gave these Serpent Men the ability to shape change into human form.

Set, foreseeing the arrival of the First Host of the Celestials on Earth, urged his Serpent Men to kill a nearby Homo erectus tribe so that they and not the humans would be the ones to be experimented upon and empowered by the Celestials. The Serpent Men entered the valley near where the Celestials would land and urged two humans to turn on their own tribe. However the humans rejected the Serpent Men, and drove them from the valley. [Uncanny X-Men Annual #13]

The First Host of Celestials arrived on Earth to explore the planet and to perform genetic experiments on human beings. They were greeted by Gaea, who escorted them to the valley where the tribe of Homo erectus lived. The Serpent Men approached the Celestials, but were driven away by the Celestial Arishem the Judge. Gathering up a handful of the humans, the Celestial Gammenon brought them back to the Celestials’ ship. The Celestial Ziran the Tester analyzed the humans, then began his experiments. He created the Deviants, a sub-species of man who were genetically unstable, so that the Celestials could determine mankind’s adaptability. Nezzar the Calculator then experimented and created the Eternals, who were evolutionary accelerated, given extended life spans, and given the ability to channel and manipulate limited quantities of cosmic energy. The Eternals were created to test mankind’s durability and longevity. To further test the versatility of human genes, the Celestial Oneg the Prober implanted a dormant DNA complex in other specimens of mainstream humanity which would one day result in benevolent mutations. Completing their experiments, the Celestials released their test subjects and left Earth. [Uncanny X-Men Annual #13, What If? Vol. 1 #23]

The Great Beasts, seven mystical beings of incredible power, arose on their native home-world in a pocket dimension. Their world, which was much like the Earth, was quickly conquered by the Beasts. They laid waste to the planet, killing billions of it’s inhabitants and imprisoning their souls in the Pit of Ultimate Sadness. In search of new conquests, the Great Beasts began observing other worlds outside their dimension.

An alien spaceship crash landed on an extra-dimensional world. The energy released by the destruction of the ship’s warp drives caused a permanent fluctuating rift to be opened between that dimension and Earth, with it’s Earth entrance appearing in the Himalaya Mountains in what is today Tibet. The aliens used the remains of their ship to build a city which they named K’un-L’un.

990,750 B.C.

The Kree Science Council, aware that their enemies the Skrulls had once created a Cosmic Cube, designed a super cybernetic/organic computer to help them in creating a Cube. When the computer became functional, it determined that a Cosmic Cube would be too dangerous to construct and refused the Science Council’s request to help them in creating one. This computer, called the Supreme Intelligence, was then used in an advisory capacity.

Over time the Supreme Intelligence achieved more and more political power and responsibility until finally it was elected as absolute ruler of the Kree. Eventually the Supreme Intelligence even came to be worshipped and an organized religion was built up around it.

78,000 B.C.

Kree scientist Bronek developed the first Sentry prototype, a humanoid robot designed to safeguard and patrol Kree outposts and weapons depots.

As the Kree-Skrull War raged on, the Kree set up a supply outpost in the Sol solar system on the planet Uranus, hoping to maintain a weapons base close to the natural space-warp that exists in the Sol solar system. They left Kree Sentry 213 behind as guard.

48,000 B.C.

The Plodex, an alien race which exhausted all natural supplies within their own solar system, developed an ingenious means to colonize other worlds. An automated ship would land on a hospitable world, sending out a hypnotic summons which would attract the most intelligent races of that planet. The ship would then combine Plodex DNA in unhatched eggs with that of the most intelligent species. The ship would then launch thousands of eggs all across the planet. One of these colony ships was launched towards Earth.

Thor

Thor was created by Stan Lee and first appearance: JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #83

Real name: Thor

Occupation: Warrior,
Adventurer Legal status:
Prince of Asgard, honorary
citizen of the United States
of America with no criminal
record

Place of birth: A cave
somewhere in Norway

Marital status: Single

Known relatives: Odin
(father), Jord (Gaea, mother),
Frigga (adoptive mother), Loki
(adoptive brother), Vidar
(half-brother), Buri (Tiwaz,
great-grandfather), Bor
(grandfather, possibly
deceased), Vili, Ve (uncles,
presumed deceased), Sigyn
(former sister-in-law)

Group affiliation: East
Coast Avengers, Gods of Asgard

Base of operations: Asgard,
New York City

History: Thor is the bloodson of Odin, lord of the
gods of Asgard, and Jord, who is also known as Gaea, the
elder goddess of the Earth. Odin sought to father a son
whose power would derive from Earth as well as Asgard, and
hence he sought to mate with Jord. Odin created a cave in
Norway where Jord gave birth to Thor. Months after the
infant Thor was weaned, Odin brought him to Asgard to be
raised. From that time onward Odin's wife, the goddess
Frigga, acted as Thor's mother.

Not until recent years did Thor learn that Jord was his
mother. A severed eye of Odin once grew to great size,
achieved sentience, and informed Thor that another Thor had
existed before the current Thor's birth. This previous Thor
is said to have killed the Midgard Serpent, and to have been
killed himself by the dying monster's venom, at Ragnarok,
the destruction of a previous version of Asgard. Odin
himself was killed, but a new Odin appeared in the place of
several gods who survived Ragnarok, and it was this new Odin
who fathered the current version of Thor. Possibly these
previous versions of Odin and Thor were earlier physical
incarnations of the Odin and Thor of today. However, this
account of Thor's origin by the severed eye of Odin may very
well be entirely false. The eye's motives for constructing
such a story, if it is false, are unknown.

The young Thor was raised alongside Loki, who had been
adopted by Odin after Loki's father, the Frost Giant Laufey,
had been killed in battle. From childhood Loki was jealous
of Thor, and his hatred grew over the years to a wish to
destroy him. Thus began Loki's enmity for Thor, which
persists to this day. When Thor was eight, Odin sent him to
Nidalvelir, the land of the dwarves, to bid the dwarves
Brokk and Eitri to create three treasures for Asgard's
ruler. Among the three treasures that Brokk and Eitri
created was the uru hammer Mjolnir (although Loki sabotaged
the creation of the hammer so that its handle was made too
short).

Odin bestowed various enchantments upon the hammer,
including one that made it impossible for anyone to lift it
except someone who was truly worthy of wielding it. Odin
then declared that he was reserving the use of Mjolnir for
Thor, who would receive it on the day that great deeds of
selfless valor had proved him worthy of it. For years Thor
strove to become strong and worthy enough to wield the
hammer, and was responsible for many heroic deeds. Finally,
when Thor was sixteen, Odin presented him with the hammer,
declaring he was indeed worthy of it. Thor became Asqard's
greatest warrior.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Height: 6'6
Weight: 640 lbs.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blonde

POWERS AND ABILITIES
Strength: Thor possesses Class 100 strength, enabling
him to lift (press) over 100 tons. Thor's strength is
doubled when he wears his enchanted belt of strength. Known
superhuman powers: Thor possesses the superhuman physical
attributes of an Asgardian, but as the son of Odin, lord of
the Asgardians, and Jord, elder goddess of the Earth, his
strength, endurance, and resistance to injury are greater
than those of the vast majority of his race. Like all
Asgardians, Thor is extremely long-lived (although not
immortal like the Olympians) superhumanly strong (the
average Asgardian male can lift about 30 tons over his head;
Thor can lift over 100 tons above his own), is immune to all
Earthly diseases, and is resistant to conventional injury.
(Asgardian flesh and bone is about three times as dense as
similar human tissue, contributing to the Asgardians'
superhuman strength and weight.) Thor's Asgardian metabolism
gives him far greater than human endurance at all physical
activities.

Weapons: Thor's principal weapon is the enchanted hammer
named Mjolnir, one of the most formidable weapons known to
man or god. Forged out of the mystical metal uru, whose
chief properties are durability and ability to maintain
enchantment, the hammer is two feet long and its handle is
wrapped in leather which terminates in a thong. Besides
being a nearly indestructible throwing weapon, the hammer
has been given six enchantments by Odin to augment its
physical qualities.

Enchantment #1: No living being can lift the hammer from the
ground unless he or she is worthy.

Enchantment #2: The hammer will return to the exact spot
from which it is thrown after striking its target.

Enchantment #3: The hammer enables the wielder to summon the
elements of storm (wind, rain, thunder, lightning, etc.)

Enchantment #4: The hammer can open interdimensional
portals, allowing its wielder to travel to other dimensions,
such as from Earth to Asgard.

Enchantment #5: Bestowed on the hammer by Odin in recent
times, it enabled Thor to transform into the mortal Don
Blake by stamping the hammer once upon the ground and
willing the change to occur. Since Thor has not had the
alterego of Don Blake for quite some time now it is unknown
if this power is still in effect or if it has been modified.

Enchantment #6: By throwing the hammer and grasping its
leather thong, Thor can magically propel himself through the
air in the semblance of flight. Just as the hammer can
magically change its course in order to return to his hand
when he throws it, so can it be influenced by its wielder to
change its course while it is in his grasp in flight.

Black Bolt

Black Bolt and the Inhumans were created by Jack Kirby and first appeared in Fantastic Four #45. Origin recounted in: Thor #148,149 and Avengers #95.

BLACK BOLT

Leader of the Inhumans

Real Name: Blackagar Boltagon
Other Aliases: Black Bolt

Historical References: Black Bolt was born to two of Attilan’s top geneticists, Agon, head of the ruling Council of Genetics, and Rynda, director of the Prenatal Care Center (see Attilan). Subjected to the mutagenic Terrigen Mist while still an embryo, Bolt was born with strange powers surpassing even the Inhumans’ norm (see Inhumans). As an infant, he demonstrated certain energy manipulative abilities which he could not yet control, particularly that of producing quasi-sonic energy of great destructive potential. To protect the community, he was placed inside a sound-proofed chamber and given an energy-harnessing suit There he was schooled in the art of controlling his powers until the age of nineteen, when he was permitted to enter society.A month after being awarded his freedom, Black Bolt discovered his younger brother Maximus in the process of making a treacherous pact with emissaries of the alien Kree (see Kree, Maximus). Attempting to stop the Kree ship before it escaped, Bolt used the forbidden power of his quasisonic voice to knock the ship out of the sky. When the ship crashed to Earth, it landed on the parliament building, killing several key members of the Council of Genetics, including his parents, Agon and Rynda. The reverberations of his brother’s shout affected Maximus’s sanity and suppressed his nascent mental powers. Despite his guilt and silent protests, Black Bolt was obligated to accept the mantle of leadership of the lnhumans at the age of twenty.

Overview: Exposed to the Terrigen Mists, a powerful meta-mutagen, while within the womb, Black Bolt has a wide array of powers, far greater than most Inhumans. Black Bolt has really two sets of powers. The “electron manipulation” and the sonic disruption powers. The electron gathering and manipulation powers allow him to increase any aspect of his physical nature, including his strength, speed and stamina and resistance. Black Bolt can harness this “electron” energy for flight and the controlled projection of energy. This makes him a most formidable opponent, possibly the most powerful Inhuman to ever live. If Black Bolt were to use his voice at a shout, he has the damage capacity of a 10 megaton nuclear warhead. This effect is not just a shockwave, but a wave of transformative energy, destroying everything that it touches. As a result, Black Bolt has learned to practice rigorous mental training that prevents him from uttering a sound, even in his sleep. This meditation has been honed with years of practice and he has rarely made a sound since.

Strength level: Black Bolt possesses superhuman strength, enabling him to lift (press) approximately 1 ton. He is stronger than the average Inhuman due to the particular way in which the mutagenic Terrigen Mist affected his genetic and physical structure. By augmenting his body with his electron power, Black Bolt becomes capable of lifting approximately 60 tons under optimal conditions.

Abilities: Like all Inhumans, Black Bolt is physically superior to normal human beings due to the generations of eugenics. Attributes in which Inhumans excel over humans include reaction time, stamina, strength, resistence to injury, and speed. Humans are superior to Inhumans, however, in immunity to disease.

Known superhuman powers: Black Bolt possesses various superhuman powers stemming from his ability to harness free-floating electrons. The speech center of Black Bolt’s brain contains an organic mechanism able to generate an as yet unknown type of particle which interacts with ambient electrons to create certain phenomena determined by mental control. The most devastating of the effects is Black Bolt’s quasi-sonic scream. Because his electron-harnessing ability is linked to the speech center of his brain, any attempt to use his vocal cords–from the merest whisper to a full scream–triggers an uncontrollable disturbance of the particle electron interaction field. This results in a shock wave equivalent, at maximum force, to that caused by the detonation of a nuclear weapon. A whisper has generated sufficient force to rock a battleship, while a scream can reduce a mountain to rubble. Unfortunately, Attilan has been destroyed at least once due to the power of Black Bolt’s voice.

The fork-shaped antenna that Black Bolt has worn upon his brow since childhood enables him to channel his power in more directed, less destructive ways. The antenna moniters his brain’s speech center activity and allows him to direct limited quantities of the unknown particle to create a number of controlled phenomena. He can channel this energy inwardly to enhance his own body’s speed and strength. Black Bolt is capable of channeling all available energy into one arm for one powerful punch called the Master Blow. The exertion taxes his body’s ability to employ the particle/electron energy to its limit and renders him extremely vulnerable following its use. It has been suggested that Black Bolt has continued in his mutation and his powers have grown even greater with time.

Black Bolt is also able to direct the unknown particle outwards in ways other than by means of his vocal cords. He can rapidly route particle/electron energy through his arms to create relatively small concussive blasts. He can form a field of highly-active electrons around himself with the wave of his hand, and said field is capable of deflecting projectiles up to the mass of an MX missle traveling at its maximum speed. He has most recently caught a round from a Soviet tank with his bare hands. He can create particle/electron interaction fields solid enough to be traversed upon, though this phenomenon is a particularly difficult and exhausting one. He can use these electron fields as extrasensory probes which are highly sensitive to other electromagnetic energy phenomena. He can even manipulate his electron field to jam certain electrical mechanisms. He can also affect things at the molecular level with this power since he can modify electrons either free standing or bound within a substance. Black Bolt’s has the ability to transform matter with this power. The amount of mass that he can transform has not been determined. This power has been seen mostly in its destructive aspect as the Master Blow, Black Bolt’s most explosive display of his power.

Flight Speed: Black Bolt can also harness the unknown particles his brain generates to interact with electrons to create anti-gravitons that enable him to defy gravity. By emitting a jet of rapidly moving particle/electron interaction by-products while enveloped by antigravitons, Black Bolt can fly up to 500 miles per hour for a period of 6 hours before his brain begins to tire appreciably from the effort. The anti-graviton field also serves to protect Black Bolt from the detrimental effects of rapid movement through the atmosphere.
